Money Management
College students barely have any money. So we always have to be careful about how we handle our money. Especially during the recession, it is important to keep track of our expenditures. Here is a simple Excel sheet you can use to keep track of your spending.

The template was originally made by Ryan Carson, an entrepreneur from UK. The original template was geared towards company owners so I made a few modifications to make it for personal spending. The original article can be found here.
So here is how to use the excel sheet.

Many of us have more than one job on and off campus. In my case I make $120/month from tutoring college students, and a little more than $1200/month from doing some freelance web developing / consulting.
It has only been a week into January so I have haven’t spent much this month. So far I have $79 from my iPhone bill (it’s usually $10 cheaper but I guess I talked too much on the phone last month), and the $225 server rental fee for discovertunes.com. I usually spend over $1000 at the end of every month. Mostly on food and transportation. I’m not a really good saver.
On a separate sheet I keep a more detailed info about my spending.

At the bottom right of the first sheet you can see how much net income you are making.

Hopefully I will be able to save a lot of money this year.

My goal this year is to be able to save enough money so that I will be able to pay my own rent when I move into my own apartment this coming July!
Happy Saving!
